Discrimination in the Church

When i was a child , I remember going to a white garment church. It was not the regular celestial church or the other popular ones. But it was a white garment church all the same and like every normal church.Prayers started and ended with “In Jesus name” and ended with same.

We were taught as children in Sunday school and evening Sunday fellowships the way of Christ , to seek him first , that God the father , God the son and God the holy spirit were all one.

We were taught that God was the same today and forever.

We were taught that the God we call now is the same God that was called in the days of Abraham , Isaac and Jacob.

The question that keeps weighing on my mind now is……….WHAT HAS CHANGED……..??????

The world has evolved in so many ways. The days of Abraham , Isaac and Jacob are not the days we have now. People lived under law back in those days , but now , we live under grace. Law was no respecter of persons in those days. You faulter, and you are made to pay for your sins. But under this present dispensation , you are allowed the chance for repentance.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with moving with times and getting accustomed to the new things life has to offer.
People don’t carry bibles to church anymore.

This is the dispensation of iPads , Playbooks , blackberry phones , iPhone to mention just a few of these gadgets. And im one of the majority who has taken to this trend.
Someone famously said to me that its wrong to take these gadgets to church or substitute them for the holy bible. Yes , i agree. I totally agree that these gadgets cannot replace the word of God in our lives. But the truth is the bible is just like every other book if you don’t know its contents or the power the knowledge of its contents gives to you. Its like having a fully loaded gun but don’t know where and how to pull the trigger. Its just another piece of metal. “ The power of the word is in the knowledge of the word and not in the book”
We live in a world where caution has been thrown to the wind and people really do not care about what they do and how they do it…They just do it.
The sad thing is that the church is not exempted. In my opinion , the church is the most guilty.
There seems to be more churches than hospitals and schools and motherless babies homes. An American pastor(wont mention names) said on his first visit to Nigeria that if the amount of churches in Nigeria can be a basis to measure the level of faith and holiness in the country, then Nigeria must , has to be the holiest nation in the world. And that provoked a very deep thought in me.
Why do we have so many churches and general overseers. So many pastors and so many crusades and church programs and yet , the country , according to media houses and newspapers around world is still ranked as one of the most corrupt in the world.
There are thieving men and women in power who sit in front rolls in church services and raise up supposedly holy hands.
Why should a rich man be ushered to the front roll or why does he have a special parking space at the car park and the other do not have. Why is he allowed to see the pastor after service and the other is asked to book an appointment.
The woman that gave her widows mite was said to have given the most because she gave her best. How many people have been turned back from giving their best because they were not in the circle of people that was “approved” by the church. Come to me all ye that labor and are heavy laden and i will give you rest Mathew 11 vs 28.  That’s what the holy book says and not come to me the rich and famous. Prosperity commands respect and people tend to favor the successful. But in the church, there should be equality.

According to Wikipedia “ Discrimination is action that denies social participation or human rights to categories of people based on prejudice . This includes treatment of an individual or group based on their actual or perceived membership in a certain group or social category.
And he himself gave some to be apostles , some prophets , some evangelists and some pastors and some teachers for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry and for the edifying of the body of Christ. Ephesians 4 vs 11-12
We all cannot have it all according to this bible passage. We all do not have the capacity to carry all these gifts and that’s why it was shared.
But the beauty of it all is to achieve a common goal which is to equip the saints and to edify the body of Christ.
But amazingly, in this present day Christianity a man can have it all. He is the pastor , the prophet , the evangelist , the seer , the dreamer , the all in all. Reminds me of a man that lived very close to my street. He alone was “ the most honorable reverend doctor” only one man.
Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.
The name of Jesus is the same everywhere. In every part of the world that its being called ;its always the same. The followers of Christ were first called Christians in Antioch because of their Christ like behavior and not because they carried the bible or because of the titles before their names. And i ask yet another question. How many Christ like pastors or “men of God” do we have around now. How many of them would have qualified as Christians in Antioch.
People don’t care so much about the behavior anymore. People don’t care so much about the people who sit in the front row or who has the best parking space anymore. You can fix in what they care about yourself.
There are how many church doctrines 2 , 3 , 4 or maybe even 5. Everybody seems to know how to worship God better than the other person. The Catholics have a problem with how the Pentecostal worships. The Pentecostal too seems to have a problem with catholics. Some Christians say the best church to go are the Anglican ones because its like the days old. The deeper life wont go to an Anglican church because they don’t like the way they carry out their worship sessions and it goes on and on and on.
Why is there so much discrimination …. Why is the church not what its meant to be… Why is it more of competition than true worship…So many “ whys” and probably no answers…
If my people who are called by name , will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways , then I will hear them from heaven , and i will forgive their sins and will heal their land … 2 Chronicles 7 : 14
This Is the commandment….
The bible is “ONE and we all should live our lives according to the bible and not according to what our different doctrine says or teaches. We will all stand as individuals and not as Pentecostals or as Anglicans and so on.
